Position Overview
The Commercial Real Estate Director serves as a partner to our commercial and private bankers and provides a professional, team-oriented environment that encourages both personal and professional growth. In addition, the Commercial Real Estate Director acts as a senior representative of the bank within the overall business community. Individuals in this leadership position are solutions-oriented, embrace accountability for their own goals and those of their team, and they create value for our clients during each interaction. Our Bankers are highly regarded professionals, comfortable with the role and image of a sales professional, but possess the ability to inspire and lead direct reports to collaborate in their work environment.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Consistently delivers outstanding client service with a friendly, can-do attitude, and willingness to help at all times.
- Acts as a cultural ambassador to internal and external clients, providing a professional, exceptional, and supportive experience with each interaction.
- Acts as the senior salesperson actively soliciting new profitable business by calling on established real estate investors, developers and real estate operating companies.
- Responsible for sales management of the Commercial Real Estate team as it relates to pipeline management, calling activity management and sales reporting management.
- Responsible for the leadership and development of the team including hiring, coaching and developing established performance management standards.
- Delivers value to clients seeking real estate related loans, lines of credit, or other banking services.
- Analyzes and prepares loans and lines of credit in loan portfolio.
- Maintains credit quality of loan portfolios.
- Provides full oversight to market environment, profitability and growth focusing on identifying market opportunities, recruiting talent and enhancing The Bank of Tampa brand value.
- Proactively leads the community banking efforts within the Bank’s defined Commercial Real Estate space.
- Interviews prospective clients to gather information concerning their businesses, needs, desires, abilities and earnings to determine whether a loan may be an acceptable risk.
- Makes decisions on loans and terms if within own lending limits, or makes recommendations to Chief Credit Policy Officer.
- Follows current loans and lines to ensure complete conformity with terms and keeps abreast of developing trends.
- Coordinates or performs all necessary collection activities on all extensions of credit to assigned customers.
- Gives financial advice and counsel to clients and prospective clients at all times keeping the banker/borrower relationship in perspective.
- Ensures adherence to the approved loan servicing policies and procedures of the Bank.
- Ensures the proper control and maintenance of all notes, ledgers and other documents and directs the acceptance, valuations, safekeeping and release of collateral, and the maintenance of proper accounting records and controls for assigned portfolio.
- Communicates with impact and enthusiasm in formal and informal settings with audiences such as corporate leadership, major project leadership, senior loan committee, and in communicating corporate objectives to staff.

Minimum Qualifications
- 5 years of experience banking local and regional real estate investors, developers and real estate operating companies.
- Formal credit training and underwriting experience.
- 4-year Undergraduate Degree (e.g., BS or BA) preferably with a business or finance focus or equivalent combination of education/experience.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license as local travel will be required 20-60% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hold one civic or philanthropic board position.
- Self-motivated and proactive.
- Member of group of associations affiliated with the client niche such as NAIOP, ICSC, REIC, CCIM, SOREP, and Community groups.
