Role Description
This full-time, on-site role as the Director of Congregational Properties located in San Rafael, CA. The Director of Congregational Properties is a strategic, administrative leader who oversees all operations related to the facilities, grounds, and vehicle fleet of the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael. This role is focused on planning, vendor management, budgeting, and project oversight—however, in a small nonprofit environment, it also requires someone willing to roll up their sleeves occasionally to pitch in where needed. You won’t be doing repairs all day, but if a sink is leaking or a door needs fixing, you might be the one who steps in to help or triage the issue until your team or a vendor can respond.
You’ll manage a trusted in-house team (Facilities Manager + 3 Technicians), lead capital projects, drive sustainability efforts, and help the Congregation through a thoughtful, mission-aligned campus downsizing. This is a great fit for someone who thrives in purpose-driven environment, enjoys building systems, and is passionate about efficiency, safety, and stewardship. You’ll be most effective if you’re a planner and leader who can manage projects and people—but also someone comfortable stepping out of the office now and then to support your team directly when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee multi-property operations: facilities, grounds and fleet logistics (30 vehicles)
- Develop and manage annual budgets and multi-year strategic plans
- Oversee capital improvement projects, preventive maintenance, and work order systems
- Guide and mentor a facilities team
- Manage vendors and contracts
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards
- Support cross-departmental transitions, events, and space usage
- Promote energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives
- Support safety, emergency and security protocols
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in Facility Management and Property Management skills
- 5+ years of leading teams
- Working knowledge of building systems, safety codes, and sustainability standards
- Ability to read & understand plans & technical drawings
- Tech confidence (Microsoft Office, work order tracking)
- Experience managing projects, budgets
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently
- Effective written & verbal communication, technical communication, active listening, & interpersonal skills
